It's a Miracle
I did something yesterday that I have not done since Junior High School more than 40 years ago. I bought a new pair of jeans, size 34.
To put this miracle in perspective, I have been above 200 pounds since my Freshman year in High School. At my best, when I played a little high school football, my jeans were a size 36 and I weighted around 210 (yes, I played on the line like my hero, John Madden).
When Lee and I married 30 years ago I slimmed down to 220. I wanted to get down to 210 but was unable to accomplish that.
Over the next 30 years my weight slowly climbed. I tried diet after diet, exercise program after exercise program, and like many of us I lost some weight then gained it back. Soon my “goal weight” increased was 220 – I had given up on every reaching 210 again.
Every New Year’s Eve I made a resolution to lose weight. Every year, despite my best intentions I failed. In 1999 I weighed a hefty 279 and my jeans were a size 48. I resolved, on that special New Year’s Eve, not to be fat in the new century. I resolved to get down to 180 pounds.. I began, yet again, a diet and exercise program. This time I was able to drop down to 247 pounds, but it took me 4 years. At that rate I would be at my goal weight in 8 years.
Then my wife saved me. She started a new diet. A diet under the supervision of a physician. It had been recommended to her by a coworker, and while it is a little more expensive then other diet programs, it is a program that has been proven to work. Better, it works quickly. I watched as the weight melted off her, and considered the program as I struggled to lose weight.
For Christmas in 2004 we gave our daughter Catherine the gift of the weight loss doctor. She too raved about the ease of the program, and the immediate results were apparent to all. By February, 2005, I was convinced and ready to make a commitment to the Diet Doctor program.
I started the program in late February. I have lost 57 pounds. 57 pounds in less than 5 months. I did it without extreme exercise. I did it without extreme hunger. I did it and went off the program several times, most notably when the wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in Venice, Italy.
When I began The Diet, I set two goals. First, I wanted to get down to 180 pounds, and second, I wanted to wear a size 36 again. I purchased and wore size 36 jeans the Fourth of July weekend.
Yesterday I purchased jeans size 34.
I can’t remember the last time I was this thin, but I am sure it was circa 1960.
I have 11 pounds to go to reach 180. I may go a little further to see if I can finally rid myself entirely of the spare tire I have lugged around since the early 1960s. My wife confidently predicts my jeans will be a size 32 by time I am done. From her mouth to God’s ears!
Anyone who is tired of being fat and is ready to make a commitment to losing weight should give serious thought to calling Dr. Maybery’s Optimal Weight & Wellness Medical Center at (916) 774-4348. She has an office in Folsom, Roseville and Yuba City, and can give a referral to a similar qualified program if her locations are not convenient. Be warned, however, that not all medical diet programs are the same, and like every other profession, there are some doctor’s who have great programs – like Dr. Maybery – and some who have less effective programs. If you decide to call Dr. Maybery’s office, ask for Annette Levy, RN, and tell her Steve sent you.
